This isn’t medical advice. You can do the annual OB/GYN visit if you want to. But my gut told me, after an “atypical” pap smear years ago, that I didn’t need to be anxious about it, and to research this issue in more detail. (Googling doesn’t count. Everything Google serves up is pro-pharma; alternative info has been stripped from the search results.)
Vag Pack from Wise Woman Herbals is what my naturopath recommended I use back in 2011 when my smear was abnormal. It’s a vaginal suppository with Thuja & other good stuff. One night per week I’d use it and the other nights use the Vit E suppository. I did this for a month, got rechecked and all was normal again. Haven’t got a pap since and make a point to care for myself better with plant foods & master cleanse frequently.

Funny not so funny story about this very topic. I am 52 and up until last year, never had an abnormal Pap smear. When I went for my annual last year, the doctor was running way behind schedule, so they asked me if I would mind if the NP did my Pap. I agreed because I was now running late and I knew as soon as she did it, there was something wrong. She kept saying things like "wow your cervix is really tilted," and " jeez I can't seem to get a good sample bear with me." I never felt that "pinch" and had no spotting after, which is normal for me.
Fast forward one week and you guessed it, I got a call that my results were abnormal. They brought me back in to go over the next steps, a endo biopsy and I asked for the Pap to be repeated and was told, "that won't change the results." An endo biopsy, by the way, is one of the most painful procedures on earth, done in the office with nothing more than the advice to take Advil an hour before. Against my gut and better judgement I went ahead with the procedure and whaddyaknow-the results were normal. They were talking hysterectomy before I even had the endo biopsy.
When I was 40, my gynecologist gave me a Dexa scan and said I needed to start taking some kind of osteopenia drug ( for the rest of my life). No exercise or diet or supplement suggestions. I suspect her diagnosis was predetermined for all her 40 year old patients. I never went back to her or any other gynecologist. I’m now 64. I don’t do mammograms either… if I should ever feel a lump, I would get a thermography scan.
I saw my MIL who was addicted to traditional medical doctors who had her on 20 different medications. She died at age 78. My brother died from cancer treatments at age 63. In the hospital he got sepsis and died shortly after. My mom however was diagnosed with Lukemia at age 88 and refused chemo. The doctors gave her 6 months. She was a nurse and knew to stay away from the meds. The only medication she was on was for her thyroid. She lived four more years to age 92. If she had done the chemo at age 88 when diagnosed she probably would have lived 6 months! When you're on Medicare like I am they hound you like crazy to come in for check ups! I tell them to stop calling me. Not interested in seeing a traditional doctor!
I don't have any current links on this for you, but I think if you do a little research online, you'll discover that mammograms only work well at spotting abnormalities as long as your breast tissue is not too dense and your breasts are smaller.
If you are a larger woman or you have abnormal breast tissue that is of higher than normal density (there are multiple non-issue reasons for this), a mammogram won't do you much good because there is no way they'll be able to flatten things enough to get the machine to see anything.
I've had one mammogram. So much pain for stupid reasons. Never again.
Yes, I could do that. Yet I'd like to have some basis for my decision if possible. Also, I respect my dr as a person and for overall medical knowledge. So if I'm going to say no, I'd like to be able to give a reasoned answer.
Years ago, my doctor wanted me to have a mammogram. I said, 'No' and she said they are important. I said that I think they increase likelihood of getting cancer. She shrugged and said I was wrong. I had gotten that information from authority that I trusted (a physicist talking about how minimal exposure was something the body could fight, but the possibility of damage increased with increased exposure.) I did not want to voluntarily increase my exposure. I don't do Pap smears because I think the risks are way too low to do that or any other intrusive procedure. I also asked here, why do people do colonoscopies?

Ditto! I turn 70 in July and have not seen a traditional medical doctor in over 18 years. No pap smears or mamagrams either in all these years. I do everything I can to stay away from traditional doctors. I'm seeing an Integrative Medicine group for blood work these last few months for my thyroid. I got off all the prescription meds the medical doctors had me on over 17 years ago including thyroid meds and changed my diet eliminating wheat and corn gluten and all fast food. I have not had fast food in 18 years. After 17 years on natural supplements for my thyroid though I was feeling fatigued and the labs showed low thyroid so she put me on Armour. My iron was low too. I've been on the Armour for two months and have another lab test this week to see if my TSH is down. It was too high on the last lab 6 weeks ago. I'm also doing a heavy metal detox. We organic garden and I drink a green berry smoothie every morning. The medical industry has gone corporate for $$$. We stay away! No flu shots and no jabs! Our CHOICE!
Thank you Robyn for speaking the truth and sharing it with the world.
I have been a nurse for 43+ years and I can tell you that most people are not aware of how the US medical system keeps you sick. They don’t know what they don’t know. I am also a nurse coach and there is a great deal of resistance to natural ‘medicine’. My passion is opening their eyes and minds to what’s possible.
And with all of the fake toxic medicines and vaccines in the world. It is of my opinion that a person would probably be better off to live with the diseases without the toxic chemical medicines. Robyn is living proof of that by supplying the body with antioxidants and detoxifying the toxins out of the body. Then there's the parasite issues that conventional medicine probably overlooks. I was blessed to do a better job with my own health when I knew even less about health and medicine. I lost too many family members to chemical medicine before 2000 to not learn and look for safer and better options.

So no more Pap smears for me either :-/
What about colonoscopies?

78 yo had maybe two Pap smears back when I was malleable. No mammograms - and for good reasons.
"you can have mine, for DOUBLE the feeling of being “safe and protected!” ;-)" 🤣😁 Love and appreciate your sharing... and humor in writing. 💞

Would like to have references to back up your points so I can share with my Dr when she tells me I need to get a pap and mammogram!

Just tell her NO

I agree !00%!!!
Thanks for sharing. This confirms my belief. Linda B
Good move Robyn. Never had one done myself. I hear that they contribute to breast cancer.
Interesting. Curious about the mammograms now too.
