Our produce is being sprayed by a toxic substance called Apeel. You should also know that the company responsible for Apeel, Apeel Sciences, is funded by Bill Gates.
Apeel Sciences claims the coating is made from grapeseed, but there are toxic substances lurking in Apeel. Petrochemical solvents and even toluene, a chemical found in gasoline, have been found in this coating. The bad news is it’s being sprayed on organic produce and you cannot wash it off.
Highly toxic heavy metals: palladium, lead, cadmium, arsenic and mercury have been found in the Apeel coating, too. Apeel Sciences even applied to the FDA for their GRAS (or “generally regarded as safe”) notification, and were granted it based on the claim that “safe” levels of those substances are left on the food.
Ingesting mercury and other heavy metals is never safe and these toxic substances accumulate in our bodies. We’re also exposed to them in the air and water from pollution.
How does the FDA know if eating one apple coated in Apeel is really safe? What if someone eats 20 servings of fruits and vegetables per day–how many toxic substances from the coating are they actually ingesting?
The coating is on the fruit or vegetable peel and that’s where most of the nutrient density is! I always leave the apple peel and lemon peel on for my green smoothies.
Even the banana peel goes in my blender because it’s a source of soluble fiber with many benefits, like stabilizing blood sugar and feeding healthy gut bacteria.
How to Tell if My Produce Has Apeel on it
In some cases, you won’t know that your produce has Apeel on it, because it’s not required to be on the label. So you could be buying an apple with Apeel or Edipeel on it and not even know. Foods you cannot peel, like leafy greens, berries, and tomatoes will have the coating on them.
The troubling news is that many grocery stores already carry produce with Apeel and more will in the future. You can choose to not buy produce that has Apeel on it, but that’s not enough.
A better strategy is to speak directly to the manager of your local grocery store. Ask them if they carry produce with Apeel on it or if they plan to.
They may not even know what Apeel is and you might have to educate them on the topic. You may even want to share this article and the video with them.
Encourage your friends and neighbors to speak with the grocery store manager, as well. Talk to the managers in person, call them, keep being persistent and letting them know you will not shop there if they carry produce with Apeel on it.
Remind them the store will be losing you as a customer until they carry produce without a toxic coating sprayed on it. When the stores start losing business, they will pay attention.
How to Avoid Apeel
Support grocery store chains that have publicly stated they will not stock produce with Apeel in their stores. One grocery store chain, Natural Grocers, recently released a statement saying that they will not carry produce with this toxic coating. Driscoll’s has also stated their berries will never be coated with Apeel.
You can also take action and grow as much food at home as you can. I grow cucumbers, leafy greens, tomatoes, herbs and more on my Lettuce Grow Farmstand. You can even get free seedlings with your order with the special offer I negotiated with them.
We must keep Apeel out of our food supply. This is an issue that affects us all. We must speak up and let grocers know this will not be tolerated.
Are you as concerned about Apeel as I am? Will you speak to your grocers about it? It’s going to take all of us, to solve this issue.

Azure Standard (the nation's largest distributor of organic foods) has also pledged not to buy from any seller that uses Apeel. (https://www.facebook.com/azurestandard/posts/pfbid035RN2EJic6kvNyTbhXMRGvVDRyPfhzyioBofAnTfVuUkW2de78PPxXjj5VuSyN4tGl)

I spoke to customer service at the grocery I normally shop at when I noticed a sign for Apeel. They told me that they have no control over what gets sprayed on the fruits and vegetables because it’s done through the supplier. I told them that they should find different suppliers then that don’t use it. I thought that grocery store chains were required to put an Apeel label on their products. It really concerns me that this isn’t necessarily true.....which is so wrong.
