Broken people behave in all sorts of surprising ways. We live in a state with a sadistic vengeful governor who set up 'hotlines' and encouraged people to turn in their families and neighbors. I can't tell you how many times my 20 year old and I have been screamed at and cursed out just minding our own business trying to get shopping done. My daughter is 'on the spectrum' and it's been absolutely disturbing how people treat one another.
As a police officer for over two decades, working the streets, I've seen the worst of humanity. I've seen the best. Is society degenerating? I'd say so. Culture profoundly affects the young. When we look at what culture espouses, how can we not be degenerating? I want to see the divinity in everyone; it is there, I trust. They just forgot who they really are. That said, are we are personalities? I don't believe we are. Yes, it's challenging to look beyond the personality, but I do believe we are innately good. I hope I've got this right.
I am with you...I was unable to watch past the first episode of Game of Thrones, too....my husband and most of our friends couldn't believe that I couldn't stomach it..... I should have known then that it was a precursor of things to come.....I felt the same way when I refused to get jabbed.... same people got the shot and called me an anti-vaxxer, conspiracy theorist, that I had been radicalized, etc...... again, I haven't changed...they have......
I always considered it lucky about the people who changed into something you never thought they would because of the death/injury injections. Because now you know, they were that way all the time.
I am a retired RN. I have lived in Florida, Washington, Arizona and Utah. I have found that people are pretty consistent all around. There is an upward trend in the numbers for disorders and in the enticements of the “dark side” of society. With core values being condemned as old fashioned and a lack of desire to truly explore a value system, the void is too easily flooded with toxicity. Relentless toxic bombardment through numerous media encounters with no counterbalance of positivity or hope leaves one a victim of circumstances and too easily persuaded by whatever trend is in fashion. I was grieved to learn in your post that there is no effective treatment for any of those disorders. Tragic to say the least. My daughter was swept up in all the hype that took place in 2020 and was doing the very things you pointed out, wishing death to people who were taking a stand for freedom of choice, until she saw her mother go to rallies and protests. Once she saw for herself how inhumane she had become she stopped falling for the radical narrative that was being pushed.
I drive my dream car: great MPG, paid for, not a luxury brand, not electric. I have read there’s irrational Tesla hate (envy?) out there, just as there has always been resentment of presumed “rich people” driving luxury cars, so you have a double whammy. Josh Slocum on the Disaffected podcast has also commented on the chaos and lack of civility on the roads, and he lives in a small Vermont town.
I think it’s an unfortunate perfect storm of growing narcissism (they think they’re perfect drivers), erosion of social connection (helped by the pandemic and worsened by addiction to technology) and now fueled by spiraling inflation. People are maxxed out financially and are angry and stressed about it. Sheeple are confused because mainstream media says all is fine but in their own lives (and health), all is anything but fine.
It doesn’t help that most people in Florida are from somewhere else, so there’s a wide mix of driving cultures converging on crowded roadways. And lastly, the effects of medications—and combination of drugs—are surely affecting people in ways they’re not even aware of.
I think most people WANT to believe people are mostly good, kind, fair and generous to.others because it feels better. Optimism has a higher vibration than pessimism and cynicism. Like you, I have actively only sought out the best in others, taking the good and ignoring the bad and shining a loving light even on those whose behavior was abhorrent or reckless and hurtful towards me or another and "unworthy" of generosity of spirit.
The cruelty and disregard for caring relationships that endured decades and seemingly deepened over that time (as with your friend) has stunned me and severed all my faith in humanity. Adding to that is witnessing the human sacrifice to the demon gods; parents killing their children, spouses disregarding the health and safety of their "beloved", employers requiring the poison be taken up by their employees, families permanently disowning any relative who did not join.them in the mass culling ritual and consider said relative SELFISH for not gleefully poisoning themselves and adding to the health epidemic society was already suffocating under before 2019...and on and on.
Celebrities calling for the death of their fans they used to THANK for making them rich and famous. Doctors ignoring their Hippocratic oath to become murderers for hire. Refusing lifesaving treatment to former patients who rightfully exercised their freedom to decide for themsellves on medical interventions they did or didn't want. And now that there is undeniable proof we weren't being offered or coerced into medical interventions at all, rather military COUNTERMEASURES, it is even more disturbing that not a single apology is forthcoming.
How does one retain faith in their fellow man when the vast majority across the globe demanded they harm or kill themselves to be worthy of their affection or respect?
It appears people are more narcissistic and/or exhibiting a personality disorder, or heavy characteristics of one, more then ever in my life time (53 years). I attribute that to a change in parenting (less structure and discipline), more dual working parent homes or single parent homes, and an overwhelming number of people not raising their children up with faith in God. Self-centeredness and lack of empathy in power positions is general has greatly increased even if not in the general population.
I believe people are innately good, kind and caring . However, the crowd/herd mentality does take over in high emotional situations that “turn” people into something else. Although I don’t understand what possible benefit that behavior has, it seems so primal when it happens. Interesting concept.
Before "C" I thought that most people were good, kind etc. But I witnessed so many people just giving in to 'authorities' without using logic. I was very shocked to find that most of my technological friends followed the lies explicitly. Since I understood much more about viruses and vaccines, I took it upon myself to warn them very early. Yet only one listened and avoided the shot!
So I do think that when opinions were challenged, more people became cruel and vengeful. Some have woken to the lies and are sorry, but many are not!
I am still confused as to why people cannot see the truth. Thank you, Robyn, for an excellent blog.
For those who don’t know about D. Boenhoeffer’s essay or letter (not sure of which), it is worthwhile looking up and reading. It characterizes exactly what happens when cult like irrationality takes over.
Hi Laney, thanks for your comment. Sorry I had just edited that reference to Dietrich Bonhoeffer out of my comment before I saw your comment. (Edited mainly because I felt I was just going on too long.)
Yep, the mining required to produce the batteries for them is unbelievably harsh to the environment...much moreso than fossil fuels. Like the wind turbines. Not only are those in the ocean causing the deaths of countless Right Whales & dolphins, due to screwing up their sonar, when they need to be retired, it is far from green, the way they have to bury those huge machines. Too, backup fuels have to be at the ready anyway, as the wind doesn't always blow. Thanks for the link, I'm going to check it out!

"It surprised me. I have never seen her be cruel, vindictive, or in any way exhibit any psychopathology. In 42 years. " As far as your friend is concerned, I am afraid, that is who she really is, she just never showed it..... now when she has the chance she jumps at it.....it was there all along...... I have had the same experiences with friends and family during this pandemic...I am gobsmaked, too....also, could be this.... https://lionessofjudah.substack.com/p/changed-suddenly-massive-personality?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=581065&post_id=110870593&isFreemail=true

God says not so. God says there is nothing good in man. Again. Sinners sin.

Thank you for this. Without delving into details, I'll just say, I can relate in many ways to what you have written here.

Robyn, I assume you are aware that, in real terms, EVs are anything but "clean" or "affordable". I believed that for a minute too.
If not, please see, for example:

I read The Long Emergency the year it was published, and it revised my entire outlook. Recommended!
I just read through it, thanks for mentioning it. I then found a site of the author's: https://kunstler.com/writings/clusterfuck-nation/page/2/ Very good, insightful comments!
Sinners gonna sin.
Yes that is how our fallen nature operates, no matter how “good” we think we are.
